About Indian Army

The Indian Army is the land-based branch and the largest component of the Indian Armed Forces. It was established in 1895 and is responsible for defending the country against external aggression and internal threats, maintaining peace and security, and promoting national unity and integration. The Indian Army operates under the Ministry of Defence and is headed by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

How to Join Indian Army

To join the Indian Army, you can follow these steps:

  1. Meet the eligibility criteria: You must be a citizen of India, have a minimum age of 17.5 years and a maximum age of 21 years for NDA, 19 years for Soldiers and Officer entries, and 35 years for Territorial Army.
  2. Choose your entry: There are several entry options such as National Defence Academy (NDA), Soldiers (Technical, Nursing Assistant, Clerk, Store Keeper Technical), and Officers (Technical, Non-Technical, TGC, NCC Special entry).
  3. Prepare for the entrance exam: The entrance exam for NDA and Technical Officer entries is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The Soldier and Territorial Army entries have their separate written exams.
  4. Clear the physical and medical tests: You must clear the Physical and Medical tests as per the standards set by the Indian Army.
  5. Appear for the final interview: The final interview is conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).
  6. Complete the training: If selected, you will have to complete the required training before being commissioned as an Officer or a Soldier in the Indian Army.
