How to Join NDA

Joining the National Defence Academy (NDA) in India is a prestigious path towards a career in the armed forces. Here’s a general overview of the steps to join the NDA:

  1. Eligibility Criteria: Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria set by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which conducts the NDA examination. Generally, candidates must be unmarried male Indian citizens, between 16.5 to 19.5 years of age, and have completed their 10+2 education or equivalent from a recognized board or university.
  2. Apply for the NDA Examination: The NDA examination is conducted twice a year by the UPSC. You need to apply for the exam online through the UPSC website (https://upsconline.nic.in/).
  3. Written Examination: The NDA examination consists of a written test covering subjects like Mathematics and General Ability. Candidates who clear the written exam are called for the next stage.
  4. SSB Interview: Candidates who pass the written exam are called for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. The SSB interview consists of various tests such as psychological tests, group tasks, and personal interviews to assess the candidate’s suitability for a career in the armed forces.
  5. Medical Examination: Candidates who clear the SSB interview undergo a medical examination conducted by a Military Hospital. The medical standards are strict, and candidates must meet the prescribed medical criteria.
  6. Final Merit List: The final merit list is prepared based on the candidate’s performance in the written exam, SSB interview, and medical examination. Selected candidates are offered admission to the NDA.
  7. Training at NDA: Candidates who join the NDA undergo rigorous training for three years. The training includes academic, military, and physical training to groom them as officers for the Indian Army, Navy, or Air Force.

It’s essential to stay updated with the official notifications and guidelines issued by the UPSC regarding the NDA examination. Additionally, thorough preparation, physical fitness, and a strong determination are crucial for success in the NDA selection process.
